![]() The Low Rate and High Rate are the boundaries for the confidence interval for the failure rate listed. dentist Imaginaie binar Backblaze reveals hard drive models with lowest. The HGST (*) model name – we’ve been asked to use HGST in place of Hitachi and we are honoring that request, but these drives report their model as Hitachi and are listed as such in the data files. This statistic however, does not include drives used for testing purposes or drive models which they have. Over 2021, Backblaze added 40,460 hard drives to its pool of drives, making a total of 206,928 drives in total. Backblaze has 98,265 drives in their data centers. (We’ll try to figure out a better way to compute this value by the next report.) This offers an interesting insight into drive reliability. If the “Avg Age (Months)” data is 0.0, the given drive model was not in service during 2015 making the value difficult to compute. Each day, Backblaze takes a snapshot of each operational hard drive that includes basic hard drive information (e.g., capacity, failure) and S.M.A.R.T.The “Avg Age (Months)” column is the average age of all the hard drives of the given hard drive model. The “Max # in Service” column is the maximum number of drives ever in service for the given hard drive model. The “All Periods” failure rates are cumulative for all data (2013-Q3 2015).If the failure rate is blank, there were no drives in use during that period. For Q3 2017, BackBlaze added 9,599 new drives and decommissioned 6,221 drives, bringing the total to 86,529 hard drives, sourced from 17 different SKUs across all four manufacturers. None of the drives failed during that period. They have over 86,000 drives installed in their own Storage Pods. If the failure rate is listed as 0.00% there were drives in use, but Backblaze released their Q3 2017 drive reliability findings this morning, and the news is good. In the case of 2015 that is through Q3 (September). According to Backblaze, this drive was failing at a higher than expected. The 2013, 2014, and 2015 failure rates are cumulative for the given year. Conversely, the model with the highest failure rate (4.79) was also a Seagate, specifically the company’s 14TB model. There’s a lot going on in the chart above, here are a few things to help out:
